Sorry for the short hiatus from the blog. Between family obligations, the holidays and work, I was swamped. I did have some time though to think up new and exciting ways to merge my different interests on the blog! Today’s post is one such merger, I hope you enjoy it!
With a background in historic preservation of architecture, I wanted a fun way to incorporate it into my travel and lifestyle blog. Spewing out history facts on my favorite architecture would have been one way to go about it, but that’s just not interesting for most people. Merging it with travel inspiration and fashion however, is fresh and more relevant!
People that know me well, know that I LOVE a theme! This does not exclude my style of dress. On many occasions, I’ve themed my outfits around my school presentations, parties I’ve attended, or cities I’ve traveled to. However, one of my goals this year was to completely geek out and theme my outfits around my favorite architecture. Haha!
I’ve always been enthralled by this unique Cincinnati gem, located in the charming historic area of East Walnut Hills. It’s richly decorated in wooden ornamentation and the colors are out of this world! Or maybe just out of this country. This beautiful home is in the Swiss Chalet Style, and it definitely makes you want to hit the powdery slopes of the Swiss Alps (or sip hot chocolate while viewing the snow outside in my case).
Inspired by it’s highly decorative, wintery style, I immediately went in search of the perfect Fair Isle sweater to wear this winter. (The Fair Isle pattern has origins in Scotland, but definitely has Swiss skiing vibes) I found this great black and white version at Goodwill, but I’ve linked other great Fair Isle Sweaters below.
With it being such a bold pattern, I usually fell back on just styling it with jeans. But there are so many fun ways to wear a Fair Isle sweater that bring that winter boldness to the next level. So here are my 4 ways of styling this amazing knit!
**Special thanks to my husband Ryan for being my photographer last weekend! He walked around the neighborhood with me to find the perfect houses as different backdrops for my other photos, and gave me pep talks on being less nervous taking photos in public 🙂
LOOK #1
The most adventurous of my stylings, I paired the sweater with a buffalo check mini skirt, knee-high suede boots, and a cute red beret. Though the pattern of the sweater and skirt are both bold, I think it works because I kept it to a minimal color palette of white, black and red. If you are not feeling as brave, a mini skirt in a solid color coordinating with the sweater will look equally as cute!
LOOK #2
This next look is perfect for a casual day that you want a little fancy, but not too much. The classic trench, low-heeled pumps and beret, all in red, make the sweater pop! The skinny jeans are comfy and cute.
LOOK #3
This sophisticated look is great for events when you need something conservative and elegant. I wore this exact combo for my family Christmas and loved it. The wine pleated skirt and black bow pumps dressed up the sweater perfectly.
LOOK #4
This last look is a super comfy everyday outfit. I LIVE in these cognac ankle boots and straight-leg jeans. They are my go-to for a simple outfit that I feel confident and slim in. For a little pop of interest and color, I layered a red plaid button-up underneath the sweater, and rolled the sleeves.
Nice I love it
